Going the Distance

Lanier, GA. (05/27/2006)

By Cunningham Racing

It was worth traveling the distance to Lanier Speedway 3/8th mile track in Braselton, GA.  The day began and continued to be extremely hot and humid.  Lanier would prove to be KC’s best qualifying run of a 5th place position since entering the UARA series in March.  He qualified with a 14.569, only 5/100th’s off of the pole of a 14.515 set by Mark Setzer.

At the start of the race the #61 fell back two spots into the 7th position.  Then around lap 20 KC began to pass cars, high and low while working his way into the 4th spot.  On lap 71 the second and third place cars got together coming out of turn two.  The #61 was down low on the track and had nowhere to go and was forced to spin the car not to wreck with them.  This misfortune put the #61 to the rear of the 23 car field.  KC then again worked his way back up to the 6th position from the back of the pack by approximately lap 131.  In the middle of turns one and two, while KC was making the pass for 5th place he and the 5th place racecar got together and this would send him and the other racecar to the rear of the field.  Finally as the night ended KC was able to achieve a strong 11th place finish.

“This was a good night of racing.  We definitely had a strong car.  When I was up to 4th and could almost touch the leader.  We positively had the winning car tonight.  Like Darrell Waltrip says I am gaining ExPeriEnce,” stated KC Cunningham.
